Marlin Awards Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards will celebrate its twentieth anniversary December 1st -3rd 2016 in Nassau, Bahamas.  Considered the highest honor in Caribbean Gospel Music, the Marlin Awards were founded in1996 by Music & Media Executive Kevin “Minister K” Harris.

The first Marlin Awards ceremony was held on Sunday March 16th 1996 in the Le Cabrera Theater (now the Atlantis Theatre) on Paradise Islands in Nassau, Bahamas. The awards were first established to honor outstanding achievement in Bahamian Gospel Music and were originally called The Bahamian Gospel Music Marlin Awards.

However in keeping with its vision to expand into the region, in the year 2000 eight categories were added to include other Caribbean countries and to recognize other styles of Caribbean Gospel Music. In 2002 the awards continued to grow and more Caribbean countries became involved and subsequently the awards was renamed the Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards.

A number of songwriters, producers, engineers, managers and other industry professionals plan to attend the three (3) day weekend of events this December which will include Marlin Summit, Marlin Fest /Concert and the hosting of the 20th Anniversary Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards Ceremony.

“We are extremely excited about celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year. It has been quite a journey to get to this to this point in our development and even though the road was paved with its share of bumps and challenges we are extremely grateful to our heavenly father for entrusting us with such a global assignment” says Marlin Awards President Kevin Harris.

Considered one of the longest running Caribbean Gospel events in the region, the Marlin Awards are held bi-annually with hundreds of singles and albums submitted for nomination consideration each time. This year awards will be distributed in over forty (40) categories including New Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year.

Event organizers are busy completing final details for what many anticipate will be a memorable weekend as Caribbean artists from throughout the region, Canada, London and other countries are expected to attend.
